Peace and prosperity, I'm Randy Brickhouse-Bey. Welcome to the Healthy Gourmet Coffee Guide. If you enjoy drinking coffee, then let me show you how you can use coffee to improve your quality of life. "Enjoy the fruits of your labor".
Is gourmet coffee actually different from regular coffee? Is the word gourmet just being used to market the coffee differently? In my opinion the answer is yes to both questions. Please allow me to explain.
What does Gourmet Mean?
Let’s take a look at the dictionary’s definition of the word gourmet.
1. A connoisseur of fine food and drink. (In other words someone who knows what great food and drink tastes like.)
2. Of or characteristic of a gourmet, especially in invoking or purporting to involve high-quality or exotic ingredients and skilled preparation.
Here is the world dictionary’s definition from the French origin.
Gourmet- Is a person who cultivates a discriminating palate for the enjoyment of good food and drink.
The word gourmet started out as a noun. It eventually evolved into an adjective.
All Coffee is not Created Equal
This is why some coffee can be given the title of gourmet. It can be how the beans are grown. What country they are grown in and the type of climate. What variety of beans are they? Are the beans being grown without the use of chemicals like pesticides or chemical fertilizers?
Once the beans are harvested, how are they roasted? There are techniques for this process that can determine whether or not the coffee can be called gourmet. How fresh are the ground beans? Another factor of course is what can be added to the coffee that can make it special. Different flavorings, herbs like ginseng, ganoderma lucidum or other herbal blends. These are the reasons why some coffee can get labeled as gourmet.
When we attach the word gourmet to a food or beverage we are saying there is something special about it. There is something that sets it apart from the ordinary. Say for example, I take a chicken put it in the oven and cook it. I just cooked an ordinary chicken.
Now, say for instance, I’m a chef. I take the same chicken, create special spice blends, sauces, herbs, put it on a decorated plate and call it gourmet chicken because of how I prepared it. Remember the definition, "exotic ingredients and skilled preparation". I could have grown the chicken on a special farm. It would be a place where the animals are fed organic food and raised in optimum conditions. This would make it better than a chicken raised by conventional means. Could I say it was gourmet? Sure I could, because the chicken is special. It was grown and prepared differently. The same situations happen with coffee. I apologize if some of this may have seemed off topic to you. I wanted to show you from a different perspective.
The second question I asked was, is the term gourmet coffee being used to market the coffee? Sure it is. Some of it is real gourmet, some is not. That’s just the way things are in the world. I created the Healthy Gourmet Coffee Guide to assist you with understanding what’s happening in the coffee industry. I do it for me as well. I love drinking coffee. I am so glad I found out it can be good for us. So please, enjoy your coffee!
