Is coffee in the category of foods that fight cancer? Sure it is, or we wouldn’t be talking about it. It has long been documented that there are certain foods that fight cancer and coffee has joined their ranks.
Coffee Lowers The Risk Of Cancer
Before I talk about the studies, let me make something quite clear. There are numerous types of cancers. Every type of cancer risk is not reduced by coffee. However, isn’t it good to know that some are? Okay let’s see what the research has to say about coffee being one of the foods that fight cancer.
Here’s one we men can definitely appreciate. The number two leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States is prostate cancer. It was reported in the June 8, 2011 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute that men who consumed at least 6 cups per day lowered their risk of developing prostate cancer.The numbers are quite impressive, from 18% to 40% lower for aggressive or lethal prostate cancer.
The numbers for the risk reduction of breast cancer are even more impressive for you ladies. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for American women. The May 14, 2011 issue of Breast Cancer Research documented some interesting findings. Women who drank 5 cups of coffee everyday showed a 57% reduction in their risk of developing what is known as ER-negative breast cancer.
The consumption of coffee has been shown to lower the risks of developing oral, esophageal, and pharyngeal cancers.The number of people developing liver cancer is steadily going up in American and across the world. Yes… studies are showing that coffee substantially lowers our risk for liver cancer too.
Our Food Is Our Best Defense
Dr. Rachel Stolzenberg-Solomon a researcher at the National Cancer Institute had this to say, “The easiest, least expensive way to reduce your risk of cancer is just by eating a healthy diet.”
Here is a short list of some of the foods that fight cancer .
· Orange Juice
· Dried Beans
· Salads, use romaine lettuce or spinach
· Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, broccoli, cabbage, and turnip greens
· Cod, shrimp & salmon
Oh yeah, and of course coffee…but you knew that already. Remember we are what we eat. See your doctor on a regular basis and…enjoy your coffee.
