Coffee Franchises – Get Healthy and Wealthy

I live in Trenton, New Jersey. There are coffee franchises opening up all over the Trenton area. Let’s see….there’s Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts in my area. There is one more and that’s McDonald’s. Yes, you heard me right. I said “McDonald’s.”, give me one minute and I will explain what I mean by naming McDonald’s as one of the coffee franchises. But first, let’s take a look at the numbers from the coffee industry.

Coffee is a Big Deal on the Trading Floor

Coffee is the number two beverage on our planet. It is the number two product traded on the market. According to the Harvard School of Public Health:

54% of Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee on a daily basis. On average at least 3 cups a day.

30% of us drink coffee between meals.

5% of us drink it with meals other than breakfast.

Now, the researchers at Harvard say we Americans spend $40 billion on coffee a year. I have seen other statistics that put the amount spent on coffee by Americans at just $18 billion a year. I tend to believe the people at Harvard more because… it’s Harvard University. Either way, it’s still a huge sum.

There are different numbers for the amount of coffee consumption worldwide as well. The International Coffee Organization estimates that 1.6 billion cups of coffee are consumed every single day. I have seen other estimates that place the number of cups consumed worldwide at 2.25 billion a day. Both numbers represent a great deal of coffee. Okay, let’s move on to coffee franchises and see how these numbers work for them.

The Great Coffee War

McDonald’s – I know most of us think of the golden arches as Ronald McDonald, happy meals, hamburgers and fries. It’s what I grew up on. Remember the numbers of how much coffee people drink worldwide? The leadership at McDonald’s knows the numbers. This is why in 2009 they launched McCafe. The company wanted a bigger share of the market and came up with a less expensive alternative to Starbucks coffee. They have begun changing the look of their stores to a more mature theme and are installing WI-FI as well.

McDonald’s has jumped into the coffee business full force, because they know where the coffee industry is going. There are big profits in the coffee market. That’s why I said they are now in the coffee business.

Dunkin Donuts – “America Runs on Dunkin” is their slogan. Out of all the coffee franchises I see opening up, this one is popping up all over the place. Dunkin Donuts is not in the donut business, they are in the coffee business. This company changed their logo from a donut to a coffee cup. They have branded themselves as the company that sells the fuel (coffee) we Americans use to keep us going. Really great marketing strategy on their part.

Starbucks - I don’t have much to tell you about Starbucks. They opened back in 1971 in Seattle, Washington. There are 19,972 stores in 60 countries at present. It goes without saying that Starbucks is on the move because they definitely understand the coffee business.

The Coffee Business Will Skyrocket

Coffee isn’t going anywhere. The trend is set. More and more people across the planet are drinking coffee. In other words, there’s money to be made. Okay…what percentage of $40 billion would you need to create a great life style for you and your family? I’m not trying to sell you anything. I just want you to take notice of where the coffee industry is going. Coffee is a healthy beverage. When consumed in moderation it might help improve our health. I have to say might, because everything doesn't work for everyone. The companies I mentioned earlier know this. When the news of this gets to everyone, coffee consumption will go up. That’s why I said “Get Healthy and Wealthy”. Like I always say…enjoy your coffee.
